Display madness after upgrade to 5.4

Issue

Before upgrading to Cinnamon 5.4 (by way of upgrading Ubuntu from 22.04 LTS to 22.10), whenever I change input on my main (of three) monitor, Cinnamon seems to forget that it was ever there, rearranging all windows on it to try to rearrange the windows that were on it to the two that reside on either side of it.

Setup: One 4K display in the middle, two, old, 1600x1200 on either side of it.

Background: I mostly work from home on a company-provided laptop that is connected to one of the inputs of my personal machine's main display, described above.

Up until now, having saved the nvidia-settings provided layout to /etc/X11/xorg.conf has, thankfully prevented Cinnamon from moving a lot of large windows unto the smaller displays, resizing them in the process.

Sadly, somewhere between the Cinnamon version in 22.04 and the one in 22.10 (5.4.12), someone appears to have tried tried to be clever, and has failed miserably and destructively in that endeavour.

When I change the 4K display's input to be my company-provided laptop, not only does Cinnamon seem to see it as its duty to fuck things up, but apparently does so, despite me having explicitly told it not to, by going through the motions to provide an xorg.conf.

Steps to reproduce

1. Use Cinnamon 5.4.12 (as provided by Ubuntu 22.10)
2. Have a setup with multiple displays that may be un- and replugged
3. Expect your carefully crafted workarounds to not have Cinnamon try to be clever about it, but to just chill
4. Cry in anger

Reproduce the multi-monitor setup on Cinnamon 5.4.12 with Ubuntu 22.10, an NVIDIA Quadro P4000, and the saved /etc/X11/xorg.conf layout. Start by reviewing the attached .xsession-errors log while switching the central display input. Done means Cinnamon preserves the existing window placement and sizes instead of rearranging windows across the remaining displays.
