Research direction
Start by reproducing the issue in Cinnamon 5.4.11 on Linux Mint 21 with an input method editor, testing both the start-menu search bar and the Alt+F2 command input bar. Compare the behavior with Cinnamon 5.0.7 and the cinamenu applet; done means switching between Korean or Japanese input modes enters the changed language in both bars.
