Description

Hi folks,

Hope you don't mind me raising a discussion point as an issue, but spotted on the README that internally, LinkedIn is using https://github.com/hamba/avro

However, 3 weeks ago the project was archived since the maintainer no longer has time to support it. (Thanks to the maintainers for all their hard work!).

I was about to use Avro in a Go project, so was wondering which library to use. Saw this one, saw the note in the README about https://github.com/hamba/avro and then saw the deprecation notice. There doesn't seem to be a popular fork of the library mentioned online - the most popular fork has a single star.

I've read through the hamba/avro code, and it looks very approachable so I'm going to use it anyway, with the view that if I have to fix it myself down the track, I will, but given LinkedIn's use, I was wondering if LinkedIn were considering forking and maintaining it.

Thanks!

Research direction

Start with the README reference to hamba/avro and review the linked archived repository to understand the maintenance concern. Done would require a maintainer decision or clear direction about whether LinkedIn will fork and maintain the library; the issue does not identify code files or tests to change.
