Description
Many major blockchains are adopting the ISO 20022 digital financial messaging standard due to its potential to integrate traditional financial institutions and networks with digital networks. The lack of consistency between blockchain protocols is a significant barrier to institutional adoption and standardized formats will be the only way to achieve true cross-compatibility without the friction of custom integrations.
Per iso20022.org:
"It describes a common platform for the development of messages using:
- a modeling methodology to capture in a syntax-independent way financial business areas, business transactions and associated message flows
- a central dictionary of business items used in financial communications
- a set of XML and ASN.1 design rules to convert the message models into XML or ASN.1 schemas, whenever the use of the ISO 20022 XML or ASN.1-based syntax is preferred"
Adopting this standard may benefit the Manifest network by:
- Presenting us as a participant in thought leadership for cross-border, digital payments
- Provide access to this standard for our users to launch complaint tokens and blockchains quickly
- Distinguish the Manifest network from non-complaint blockchains to our investors and present a reduction in risk due to the potential for future exchange requirements across traditional financial institutions.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the linked ISO 20022 and Swift resources to determine what compliance would require for the Manifest network. Done should be a documented assessment of the required standard, compatibility implications, and a concrete adoption scope.
