Description
The option text says it does not do on purpose, but the rationale is unmentioned.
It would be a usability win not to have to remember to go into the menu every time before you disconnect a real controller, then go to the options to activate overlay.

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by tracing the existing option's auto-hide behavior and its real-controller connection handling; done means the overlay is restored automatically when that controller disconnects, without revisiting the menu.
