Research direction
Start by reproducing the failure in a RetroArch nightly build by entering a NetPlay room, opening the F1 menu, and sending a chat message on an affected platform. Trace the menu and chat paths from the NetPlay room; done means both actions leave the connection established. No source file or test is identified in the issue.
