Description

Under Metal, with HDR -> scRGB enabled, opening a menu overlay (while a game is running) will make menu text unreadable. The lighter the in-game screen, the more it interferes. Menu opacity doesn’t fix it. it’s much harder to read when viewed in HDR. screen shot doesn’t illustrate it well.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue on macOS with Metal HDR set to scRGB, while opening a menu overlay over a bright game screen. Compare menu readability with HDR disabled and with different in-game brightness; done means the overlay text remains readable without relying on menu opacity.
