Research direction
Reproduce the freeze in RetroArch on Arch under Niri/Wayland with the fast-forward toggle enabled, testing the affected fceumm and pce_fast cores. Compare the behavior with X11 and check the issue's empty log section for missing diagnostics. Done means toggle fast-forward works without freezing the cores in the reported Wayland environment.
