Description

What is the difference between the coreaudio, coreaudio3, and sdl2 audio drivers for macOS? This is not described in any documentation I could search online.

Also, the default audio driver on macOS is sdl2, but shouldn't it be one of the coreaudio ones?

system: macOS 11, RetroArch Metal 1.21.0

Research direction

Start at Settings > Drivers > Audio on macOS and trace where the coreaudio, coreaudio3, and sdl2 choices are documented or defined. Compare their behavior and the current default, then document the differences and explain whether the default should change. Done means the driver descriptions and default rationale are available to users.
