  • This is a bug in RetroArch frontend
  • I have searched the existing issues
Description

Opening the desktop menu (F5) and then returning to fronted and selecting load content, or starting a game from a playlist, causes a random crash.

This has been happening for as long as I can remember (probably since I've been using Retroarch 1.14). The crash is random and I've managed to open it using different cores. Although most often on Flycast, FinalBurn Neo, Puae.

Even closing the desktop menu and then loading content does not guarantee that the crash will not occur. Sometimes the desktop menu, along with the load content/playlist game, works fine for a longer period of time, other times it can crash 3 times in a row.

I will add that I use GL video driver
Windows 11
I7 8700k, rtx 3070ti

Retroarch log:

Expected behavior

Correct functioning of the desktop menu, along with load content/playlist game = no crash.

Steps to reproduce the bug
  1. Open desktop menu
  2. use load content , or load game from RA playlists (I recommend using Flycast core)
  3. random crash of entire Retroarch

Research direction

Start by reviewing the attached RetroArch log and reproducing the F5 desktop-menu sequence on Windows 11 with the GL video driver, then load content or launch a playlist game, preferably with Flycast. Done means the desktop menu and content or playlist launch complete without crashing across repeated attempts.
