Description

Description

Hello,

I play with arcade joysticks upside down, so I remap them for my right hand. In version 1.19.1, using a cheap Amazon arcade stick, I encountered a bug: remapping "left" to "right" often resets when switching games, cores, or even opening the RA menu. I've tried various fixes, like forcing the joystick profile, but the issue persists.

Expected Behavior

The joystick should work upside down, with the right hand controlling directional inputs (e.g., down becomes up, left becomes right).
Actual Behavior

While up and down mappings remain stable, left and right frequently reset to their original settings.
Steps to Reproduce

Plug in an arcade joystick.
Remap the joystick for upside-down play (e.g., down to up, left to right).
Switch between games or cores, or access the RA menu.

Bisect Results

The issue began when I started using this new controller. It still shows the profile of my old Mayflash controller, which won’t delete, and I’m unable to save a new profile.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the remapping on RetroArch 1.19.1 (commit 0792144) with the arcade joystick on Debian with KDE, then compare behavior when switching games, cores, and opening the RA menu. Done means left/right mappings remain swapped alongside up/down and the saved controller profile can be created and used instead of reverting to the old Mayflash profile.
