Description

First and foremost consider this:

  • Only RetroArch bugs should be filed here. Not core bugs or game bugs
  • This is not a forum or a help section, this is strictly developer oriented

Description

On Retroarch 1.19.1 PC Windows 64 bits, as soon as I press the NetPlay chat key (the one assigned by default ‘²’), the sound is muted.
Audio on/off is set to F9 (the default key).

Expected behavior

At first I thought it was a driver problem, but the bug occurs with all the drivers listed in RetroArch. So I don't know...

Actual behavior

Video game audio is disabled when using NetPlay chat

Steps to reproduce the bug
  1. Joining a Netplay network game (not tested in LAN mode only host mode)
  2. Activate the NetPlay Chat function with the default tidle key ‘²’ to chat with your game partner. Note: The F9 key is set by default to activate/deactivate audio.
  3. The audio cuts out even after the message has been published in the chat. Changing the audio drivers doesn't change anything, to reactivate the audio you need to go to the audio menu, the status is always on ‘activated’ but you just need to change the status from ‘activated’ to ‘deactivated’ and then back to ‘activated’ for the audio to come back on.
But each time you use Netplay chat, the audio becomes muted.
Bisect Results

The problem seems to me to have appeared straight away, no special handling required.

This is a new installation of RetroArch 1.19.1, not an upgrade.
I even re-downloaded Retroarch to overwrite the folders and files on my computer's installation.
This did not solve the problem.

Research direction

Reproduce the problem on Windows by joining a NetPlay game, opening chat with the default ‘²’ key, and checking the F9 audio state. Start by tracing the NetPlay chat and audio-menu behavior described in the report. Done means opening chat no longer mutes game audio, and audio remains enabled after the message is sent.
