Description
Changing the default thumnail folder to a usb storage folder leads to no thumbnails working. resetting playlist and rescanning doesnt help anything.
Edit:
Copying the thumbnails folder with existing thumnails over to the usb drive also doesnt work. Retroarch shows no thumbnails in this case.
This is tested on a FireTV 4k max stick.
Rom and bios folder is also on the usb drive and these folders work fine.

Research direction
Reproduce the issue on a FireTV 4k max stick with the thumbnail folder on a USB drive, then compare it with the working ROM and BIOS folders on that drive. Trace how RetroArch resolves and loads external thumbnail paths; done means thumbnails display after selecting, rescanning, and resetting the playlist.
