Description
// Issue
When scanning my "Sony PlayStation Games folder" it won't let me make a playlist if the [File Extension] of my games is in .PBP format
The Thumbnail Updated also does not seem to recognize the .PBP File Extension to start scrapping and update the [Playlist]
Note: [RetroAchievements] - Cheevos don't recognize the format on playlist either.]
// Steps to produce issue
In RetroArch go to
Import Content > Scan Directory > [Android File Root] > / storage/emulated/0 > Games > Sony - PlayStation <-- "That's how I name the Game Folder"
Where is my PSX Playlist?
//Workarounds on Issue
However RetroArch let's me make the playlist successfully if I manually Scanned it. and the [Cores] Play the content no problem.
// Steps for workaround
Import Content> Manual Scan
[Content Directory] - [Android File Root] > / storage/emulated/0 > Games > Sony - PlayStation
[Default Core] PCSX ReARMed
[File Extension] .pbp
[Overwrite Existing Playlist] [On]
Start Scan
BOOM IT WORKS
Games successfully appear on RetroArch Playlist
But it doesn not let me Update that Playlist Thumbnail cause it doesn't seem to recognize the [File Extension] [.PBP] to start scrapping my Games organized and get the [Boxart].
//Who would benefit if changes are made in next stable build ver.
Basically any RetroArch users on Android who are using .PBP [EBOOT.PBP] to play their PSX backups could successfully make a playlist
and could update "scrapping" their playlist game artwork [Boxart].
This issues is a simple fix
and it's annoying to have to do all that manually if Users aren't [Advance / Expert] on customizing RetroArch config.
Those who backup their digitally purchased PSX Games on the PS Store for their PSP/ PS3 and imported it to play / test it on RetroArch would benefit.
Since both Duckstation core, PCSX ReARMed core both read the file format
I think this change should be implemented / merged to RetroArch
I hope you can consider this feedback and fix this issue on future builds
Thanks again 🙏
// Trivia Did You Know?
PSX was the codename prior to the launch. Since the PS2 was still far into the future, they did not have to call it PS1 until PS2 arrived.
PlayStation One Portable Station (POPS):
PS1 emulator for PSP, for playing PS1 Classics off PS Store.
ISO in general is a format for optical disc image - a digital copy of a physical disc whether it is CD, DVD, BD, UMD, etc.
PS1 ISOs need to be converted to EBOOT.PBP because that is what the internal POPS emulator reads. POPS is an official Sony emulator to play PS1 games on the PSP.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the Android flow through Import Content > Scan Directory for a folder containing .PBP files, then compare it with Manual Scan and playlist thumbnail updating. Done means automatic scanning creates the playlist and thumbnail updating recognizes the .PBP entries without the manual workaround.
