Description

If you play a game and continue it from an automatic save state, if you rewind to the beginning of the save state, the whole game starts over and you're unable to go back from where the save state occured, losing progress.

Like OpenEmu, the game should just stop and be unable to rewind at all and stay on the same frame the save state occured.

The game restarts and I'm unable to go back to where the save state happened and having to start over

  1. Have the game save state and load state whenever you exit/open a game
  2. Start rewinding until it goes to the time the game started the save state
  3. The game proceeds to restart and you're unable to go back

I'm not entirely sure when this started happening, but I know it happens on RetroArch 1.9.5. I downloaded the latest version (1.9.7) and the issue is still there

  • RetroArch: [1.9.7/unable to find commit]

  • OS: MacOS Big Sur 11.4 x86

Research direction

No source file, test, or entry point is identified. First reproduce the rewind behavior on RetroArch 1.9.7 with macOS Big Sur using the listed save-state and rewind steps; done means rewinding stops at the save-state frame without restarting the game or losing progress.
