Description

Standalone Stella works perfectly with paddles as it allows users to map analog gamepad directions to "Paddle 0 Analog", paddle 1 analog, etc, but retroarch does not and it seems even input device setting that you configure to Analog directions to not get mapped to stella correctly. instead retroarch is mapping analog directions to stellas joystick directions and there is no way to configure retroarch or lr-stella to map retro-arch analog directions to Paddles 0/1/2/3 Analog setting in stella.

Please fix retroarch to allow users to map analog controls to Stella analog 0/1/2/3 as its designed to allow.

Its a real shame that we cant play any paddle games and all the systems that use retroarch.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the problem with the Stella core, a paddle game, and RetroArch's analog input settings. Trace how analog directions are translated to Stella inputs, then verify that users can map them to Stella's Paddle 0/1/2/3 Analog controls and play paddle games.
