Description
Here's a weird issue on RetroArch: When I use the wireless controllers like Xbox One or 8Bitdo, RetroBit Bluetooth Saturn controller or Nacon PS4 controllers on PC, vibration works fine. On officially licensed wired Xbox One pads by third parties (Like PDP or PowerA), vibration either works or doesn't work. Sometimes on the latter, when it does vibrate, it never stops vibrating until I unplug or enter the overlay. Wired One pads all work properly on Steam and GOG games in terms of vibration.
The affected controllers affected were the Rock Candy Xbox One controller (Blue-merang), Hyperkin Duke controller and the PowerA Spectra controller. The affected cores were Beetle PSX, Beetle PSX HW, PCSX-ReARMed and Flycast.
I believe this is somehow a bug in RetroArch's vibration handling, but I don't know how.
Expected behavior
The controllers should vibrate normally like on the official Xbox One Wireless controller on every game with rumble features.
Actual behavior
On some games, the wired controllers work fine regarding vibration. On some, it either doesn't rumble or does rumble, but doesn't stop vibrating.
For example: Firebugs worked right, but Toy Story Racer doesn't.
Affected controllers, all of which are officially licensed by Microsoft themselves:
- Rock Candy Xbox One Controller (2020 Model, Blue-Merang)
- PowerA Spectra
- Hyperkin Duke
Version/Commit
- RetroArch: 1.9.0
Environment information
- OS: Windows 10

Research direction
Start by reproducing the vibration behavior on Windows 10 with the Rock Candy, PowerA Spectra, or Hyperkin Duke controller, using the affected Beetle PSX, Beetle PSX HW, PCSX-ReARMed, and Flycast cores. Compare games where rumble works with Toy Story Racer and verify that vibration both starts and stops normally; the issue is resolved when the affected wired controllers behave consistently.
