Description
First and foremost consider this:
- Only RetroArch bugs should be filed here. Not core bugs or game bugs
- This is not a forum or a help section, this is strictly developer oriented
Description
[A better and more user friendly method of assigning players to controllers with the ability to have Player 1 assigned to both a GamePad and controller such as the Wii U Pro Controller.]
Expected behavior
[I expected to be able to set the Wii U GamePad and Wii U Pro controller as Player 1 simultaneously without having to use an additional controller to set it manually. I expected it to work how the Wii U does it at some points during use. RetroArch let's allows me to set and separate specific controllers as Player 1 and 2 respectively which is nice but it doesn't necessarily work as intended when Player 1 chooses to switch from Controller to GamePad as the Wii U allows at some points, it should always set the first connected and powered controller as player one with it's Player 1's default controller config. Sometimes I am able to pickup and switch to the Wii U GamePad during gameplay which would be nice for RetroArch.]
Actual behavior
[I am forced to manually go into RetroArch's settings and configure controller settings in an awkward fashion until outcome is configured.]
Bisect Results
[There should be an option that lets you set both the Wii U GamePad and Wii U Pro Controller as Player 1.
As far as my other issue with the screen, I am not sure why it is doing that.. I really like the 1.8.8 update especially that they fixed the menus but I think the assets extracting is still an issue too. But over all it's been running pretty well.]

Research direction
The issue names no source files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating RetroArch's Wii U controller-assignment implementation and reviewing how Player 1 mappings are handled. Done means the GamePad and Wii U Pro Controller can be assigned to Player 1 simultaneously with the expected controller behavior.
