Description
First and foremost consider this:
- Only RetroArch bugs should be filed here. Not core bugs or game bugs
- This is not a forum or a help section, this is strictly developer oriented
Description
since a couple of weeks i m plagued by a really odd bug, i can only come to think of it
that retroarch is the culprit here. in the months before may this bug was not present as far
as i know of. - i ll explain
on my raspberry pi 3B i had retropie 4.6 installed (latest with latest updates)
almost EVERY game (as far as i know of) has the problem that the computer crashes
in a way you need to unplug the power, or hold the power button down to hard reset the
device. this only happens when earning achievements, i get to see the badge and the
description of the achievement - and the system will not respond anymore.
so having this issue on the pi, i switched to a regular PC with linux Xubuntu 20.04 lts
and installed retropie on that machine, with the achievements enabled.
same issue. - then i thought - ¨its Retropie !". so i installed Batocera on the Pi3B,
again the same problem. on all my systems after getting one or two simultaneous
achievements - the system freezes and crashes needing a power button reset.
Steps to reproduce the bug
- retroachievements enabled
- run game in retroarch
- reach achievement - game crash freeze
Bisect Results
before the corona crisis i used to game alot with retroachievements - no problem then
somewhere a month after march - like april or may this problem popped up

Research direction
Start by reproducing the freeze with RetroAchievements enabled, following the listed steps on one of the reported systems. Record the exact RetroArch version from Information/System Information and compare behavior when one versus simultaneous achievements are earned. Done means identifying the RetroArch regression or failure point and confirming that earning achievements no longer freezes the system.
