Research direction
Start at User Interface > Views > Show Battery Level and reproduce with the reported Xbox One Bluetooth controller on Windows 10, using RetroArch 1.86 at commit 9dc963e15a as the baseline. Trace the Windows/XInput battery-status path into the menu; done means the controller battery level is displayed when the setting is enabled.
