Research direction

Start by reproducing the crash on Android 9 using RetroArch commit 532fd88, then test the named PCSX ReARMed, Beetle PSX, and Beetle PSX HW cores with the Final Fantasy 7 .img game image. Inspect the available crash output or logs to identify the failing path. Done means the image loads without a crash after core selection.
