Description

With libp2p+HTTP, peer authentication is becoming optional. In some of our existing transports, peer authentication adds an additional roundtrip. Others (most importantly, QUIC), could be made more accessible for new implementations if it didn't require peer authentication.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the existing transport handshake specifications and the libp2p+HTTP context described in the issue. The work is done when the relevant handshakes have defined variants that omit peer authentication and the resulting round-trip and implementation implications are specified.
