Description
There are many cases where it is useful to derive an item attribute from a relationship, such as:
- Item popularity
- Total tag applications
We should add such derived attributes to the data model, to make it easier to write model code that works with both direct attributes and attributes that can be derived from relationship data.

Research direction
The issue names no files or tests; start by locating the existing data-model handling for direct attributes and relationship data. Define how derived attributes such as item popularity and total tag applications should be represented and accessed, with completion requiring a decided design and support for both direct and derived attributes.
