Description

Observed behavior

Reported by Tomiwa in the 2023-21-06 bug hunt

Upload files screen: When I click "select files," it opens my file explorer, but nothing happens when I choose a file to upload. It only works when I try again a second time

Expected behavior

Lower latency and a more responsive UI

So far, this is not replicable on hotfixes by team members in the US (although there is some slowness) so it seems possible that this is connected to: geographic performance difference in our infrastructure, Cloudflare prioritization. This needs further exploring to see how this might be a factor here.

User-facing consequences

Poorer performance in geographic areas further from US (so, this is likely better representative of our typical Studio user than those of us doing QA and testing in the US).

Research direction

Start with the linked 2023 bug-hunt report and the upload-files screen behavior described there. Compare the first and second file-selection attempts across geographic areas, then investigate whether infrastructure or Cloudflare prioritization contributes to the latency. Done means the cause is identified and the upload flow is responsive and reliable on the first attempt.
