Description

Linters repeat some error messages:

import Lean
set_option foo true in
example : True := trivial

gives

Test.lean:2:0
unknown option 'foo'
Test.lean:2:0
linter Lean.Linter.MissingDocs.missingDocs failed: unknown option 'foo'

(In Mathlib there are more linters, and every linter reports the same error message.)

Research direction

Start with the minimal Lean snippet in the issue and reproduce it against the latest nightly release, using live.lean-lang.org if needed. Trace how the unknown option diagnostic is handled alongside linter failures; done means the original error is reported without each linter repeating it.
