Description
The project should have a code formatting spec that specifies the preferred coding style. Eventually we should enforce the spec in CI, but this step will be part of a separate issue.

Research direction
No file or test is identified in the issue. Review the repository's existing source and documentation conventions, then define the preferred Fortran coding style in a project document; completion means the formatting spec exists, while CI enforcement remains out of scope.
