Description
When dealing with large datasets, missing index reads can be extremely expensive and cause significant performance degradation at scale.
Stretch would be to introduce throttling based on index selectivity (throttle/fail query if selectivity is < x% at a fragment level to start).

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the query and index-selection implementation, then determine how a mode or configuration can reject queries without indexes; the stretch goal would require defining fragment-level selectivity thresholds and throttling behavior.
