Description

I would like to add Lance as a supported file type in dft similar to how we currently have deltalake and are working on hudi / Iceberg support. All of these formats are accessed via DataFusions TableProviderFactory. I see that TableProvider is already implemented so I am hoping that can be extended.

Research direction

Start with rust/lance/src/datafusion/dataframe.rs, where the existing TableProvider implementation is linked, and compare it with DataFusion's TableProviderFactory trait and the deltalake or hudi integrations in datafusion-dft. Done means Lance is supported as a file type through a working LanceTableFactory implementing the trait.
