Description
Following the discussion on #376, my understanding is that the issue at hand is pointing search engines to the correct websites?
I ran some tests with Benoit and some people external to Kiwix to see what they came up with when they search the terms "wikipedia offline", "kiwix hotspot", "kiwix reader", etc.
For the most part:
- wiki pages appeared
- kiwix.org appeared as the sponsored result with corresponding sublinks that were mostly correct
- get.kiwix.org appeared 2-3rd in the list in some cases
- videos/articles appeared around kiwix
The current google ad seems to be running with a "dynamic gen. display URL" - which so far seems to only call up kiwix.org? I don't have much experience here... what defines this link?
The fact that GET links are already appearing in the lists is a good sign that the organic SEO is working (unless someone is actively pushing these pages inhouse?). There is a "doublon" for the wikipedia page which leads to ORG, not clear as to why yet. All four new websites have simple and unique SEO assigned to every page.
Note: Google prioritises wikipedia/reddit/facebook/other sites over own URLs. The trends change. Linkedin for example holds no value today. Reddit is in fashion. The more we talk about what we do, the more we "flood" the search results with our sites/articles/products/downloads etc. It's a scale game as well as a precision game, and the rules change all the time...
So my queries are:
- Can you confirm that this is the "problem" that was brought up at the end of the previous ticket #376 ?
- If so, what bandwidth do we have to improve SEO/communication/articles/etc.?
- Or are we willing to wait for organic search engine growth?
If this is not the issue at hand, please explain again!
And here are some screenshots...
