More an FYI as I used the alternative installation ...
I tried installing Keybase on Ubuntu 19.04 today via Ubuntu Software. The install reported no errors but Keybase didn't launch when pressing the Launch button in Ubuntu Software. Additionally, bringing up Activities and typing 'keybase' did not show the Keybase icon nor any other indication that Keybase was installed.
Using the instructions from https://keybase.io/docs/the_app/install_linux worked.
