github verification is messy and doesn't work

I cannot verify my github acount, it is unclear what should be the name of the public gist (I'd also emphasize it needs to be PUBLIC - the same with fb), and what the text. I tried it with bash (I've keybase cmd line tool installed)

Review the GitHub verification instructions and the bash example shown in the issue. Clarify the required public gist name and text, and explicitly state that the gist and Facebook verification must be public; done when a newcomer can follow the verification steps without guessing.
