Any way to install the client for the first time on a machine without the GPG key?

Description
I don't really want the client to use my GPG key directly. I'd rather shuttle messages back and forth by hand when needed, which looks like it wouldn't be that often. It didn't just work or ask me what to do, any chance there's some secret tricks to get it working?
