Description

I just tried using Keybase for the first time. I used one of the desktop clients and added a machine to my account. I found that I could not upload a public key after this; the web interface kept trying to push me into uploading my private key. As a work-around, I did a "sledgehammer" reset and added my public key first.

It was very disconcerting at first how pushy Keybase was to get my private key. I also knew there should be an option to manually upload and verify it, but I was not presented with it above (until the work-around).

Is this intentional?

Research direction

Reproduce the reported flow in the desktop client and web interface: add a machine to an account, then try to upload and verify a public key. Done means the interface offers the public-key upload path without requiring a private-key upload, or clearly explains the intended behavior.
