An idea for a feature: cryptographically secure clipboard/copy-paste between devices

Hi, it just occurred to me that you have basically all the infrastructure to do this pretty easily.

I just had moments of swearing how hard is it to transfer some secret keys from a device to another, without sending them through some third party service. Of course, this applies to non-secrets too, like URLs of snippets of text. Today I even sent an URL to my girlfriend in Line on my laptop (a WhatsApp-style chat app) and said "sorry, this was just for me to be able to check that URL with my smartphone", because that's fast and easy.

With the Keybase filesystem, it's possible to save such a snippet of text into a file, and then access it from another device. However, it's not very ergonomic for some small thing's you'd just prefer to copy-paste, if you were on the same device.

But using your infrastructure and building some "ergonomic sugar" on top, you could make secure inter-device copy-pasting a reality.

How do you feel about this suggestion?

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by reviewing the existing Keybase filesystem and related infrastructure mentioned in the proposal, then define the security and user-experience scope for inter-device clipboard transfer. Done would require an agreed implementation plan and acceptance criteria, which this issue does not yet provide.
