Description

I read #788 with great interest. Seeing that there is no set business model at the moment and that this is a passion oriented project, I would like to suggest a way forward that maintains that altruistic mentality.

I am passionate about cryptography, and also passionate about developing funding models that do not require subversive and subtle "harm" to the user through privacy abuses. To that end, there is a project of which I am a user but not a developer, yet, called Gratipay, that is building an economic model around gratitude and payment based on gratitude.

It seems to me that this is an excellent fit for keybase. Those of us who think you are doing an excellent job and want this to remain a free and relatively inviting system should be willing to support it. I would suggest that you set up an Open Company concept with keybase, starting with the creation of a Gratipay "company" account that users like myself can voluntarily contribute to. Then, encourage your users to contribute in this manner.

Unlike other funding models, this is not a "pay us for X" kind of incentive, but rather one centered around a shared passion for creating and improving the lives of those around us through cryptography. I think this is not only worthwhile but I think it is an excellent fit for running this sort of service, which should not place a high or increased burden on newcomers to cryptography.
