Description

I tried to run Keybase app on macOS - an old installation.

It offered to setup identification for my device called "something". I pressed cancel and installed the latest version of Keybase app, now I get the message:

screen shot 2017-11-10 at 04 04 05

So I guess some important piece of info got lost on upgrade.

I have a backup of my machine: where can I find the info so that I can reuse the device name I already used once?

This time it wouldn't be critical, but I do need to know it because for the future, I want to of course reuse the name even if reinstalling the operating system etc.

thank you for help

Research direction

Begin by reproducing the upgrade and reinstallation scenario on macOS using the old installation and the machine backup described. Determine where the prior device name is stored and whether the current app can recover it; done means documenting a supported recovery path or correcting the upgrade behavior.
