Description
I received a file from someone in a private folder. The menu bar item got a badge, so I selected it and clicked the new folder. The folder opened in Finder, and the blue panel opened showing the user who I shared the folder with and offering me to follow that user.
Bad news: as soon as the "follow" panel showed up, the mouse cursor disappeared. I think the problem may have been that my main screen at this point was an external display.
The cursor would come back in flashes intermittently, possibly when it was moved fast enough to trigger the "shake the mouse to grow bigger" feature. And the cursor was always visible when it was in the Dock. As soon as it left the Dock, it became hidden again.
Eventually, I managed to close the window. The mouse cursor came back immediately.

Research direction
No source file, test, or entry point is identified. Reproduce the shared-folder workflow on macOS 10.11.6 with an external display, focusing on the follow-user panel; done means the cursor remains visible outside the Dock and returns normally when the panel is closed.
