Description

I just upgraded a machine from macOS 14.6 to 14.6.1. When it booted up after the upgrade, I got a pop-up error message talking about "device slots" not being available. I know I've encountered this before, and I remember there being a relatively simple way to work around it, but I don't remember off the top of my head what it was.

DUH ... while I was typing this up on a second machine, I did another full reboot of the machine I had updated. Apparently doing a full reboot (i.e. →Restart...) was enough to resolve the issue.

Crisis averted, however it might be useful to include this in the documentation somewhere?

No file, test, or entry point is named. Review the macOS upgrade report and the referenced log, then identify the appropriate documentation location for the workaround. Done means documenting that a full Restart resolved the “device slots” error.
