Description

I believe I've found 2 issues related to sharing gifs from the iOS photo album.

  1. Sharing a gif from the iOS photo album and choosing the "compress" option results in a static image being shared

  2. Sharing a gif from the iOS photo album and choosing the "full" option results in a gif being shared - but it only plays through once and stops instead of playing repeatedly in a loop. If you click on it to open it in the pop-up window that results it will play through once more and then stop again.

It seems this should behave similar to the macOS desktop client, where if you paste/share a gif into a chat from your computer it plays repeatedly on a loop.

Research direction

Start by reproducing both sharing paths from the iOS photo album: compressed and full-size GIFs. Compare their behavior with the macOS client; done means compressed sharing preserves animation and full-size GIFs continue looping instead of stopping after one play.
