Description

The Keybase client right now is continually triggering a remote volume login dialog on macOS. I'm not exactly sure what it's doing, beyond the fact that Keybase hangs while waiting for me to process the dialog. If I have Keybase completely terminated right now, and launch it, I see the dialog 14 times before I'm able to request that it quit again (at which point I see the dialog 2 more times before it actually terminates).

This just started happening a couple of days ago.

It's trying to mount my NAS, but it's doing so using the wrong username (a username I used to use with this NAS but don't use anymore). I actually already have it mounted with the correct username, which is why I know it's trying to use the wrong username (as mounting without a username just piggybacks on my existing connection).

A few years ago I tried to set up this computer to automount that volume. I tried a few things, I don't remember exactly what, before giving up and just putting an alias in my Login Items. I went back and checked all of the relevant spots I can think of (e.g. `/etc/fstab`, DirectoryServices, `/etc/auto_master`) but none of them show any trace of my old attempt. I can't think of anywhere else that I could have touched, and I especially can't think of why Keybase would be triggering this now.

So what is Keybase doing now that would cause this? It's making the Keybase GUI completely unusable on this machine.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the repeated remote-volume login dialogs when launching the Keybase client on macOS, with the NAS already mounted under the correct username. Check the listed /etc/fstab, DirectoryServices, and /etc/auto_master locations as part of the investigation; done means identifying why Keybase triggers the mount and preventing the dialogs from making the GUI unusable.
