iOS keyboard does not reset its input mode after send

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I like punctuation. When I finish a message ending in a period, keybase should reset the input mode to alpha rather than numeric/punctuation. It does reset when I type a sentence followed by a period and a space. I do not believe this is an iOS issue as iMessage resets the keyboard to alpha.

Reproduce this on iOS by sending a message ending in a period without a following space, then compare the keyboard state with a message ending in a period and space. Trace the iOS chat input and keyboard handling entry point; done means the keyboard returns to alpha mode after sending the period-terminated message.
