Description

Keybase GUI Version: 1.0.48-20180516084615+b56432f520

This issue occurs with the mentioned version on PC, iOS and Android devices.
For unknown reasons and not reproducible the complete history of one of our team channels was lost up to 9:45PM yesterday (22.05.2018).
Non of our private chats has this issue nor any of our other team channels.

The Auto-deletion option for all channels is set to "never delete" and as far as I know no one nuked their database or did manual alter the messages of the channel.

Some suggestions from our team were, that some of the last messages before the nuke occured might be the reason (e.g. linked or embedded content not handled correctly) but as the history is lost we cannot check what those messages might be.

Best regards
Tobias

Edit:
After further investigation it might be caused by an accidental tap on the "delete message + everything above" button in the message option menu.
To keep this issue relevant this might be changed to include a save-check after tapping any of the "delete ..." buttons to reduce the risk of deleted messages as those buttons are located dangerously close to the edit button.

Research direction

Start by investigating the message deletion controls on PC, iOS, and Android, focusing on the "delete message + everything above" action and its proximity to editing. Reproduce the reported history loss if possible and determine whether a confirmation step prevents accidental deletion; no file or test is named in the issue.
