Clicking on Team Channel Link Does Not Allow Sending

Using iOS 11 (latest version)

So discovered earlier than if someone links me via the team chat to a channel that I am not joined in, it brings the channel up, I can see the contents, but there is no direct link to join that channel nor does it allow sending (in fact it errors if one tries). I think it should pop up a message box or a link to say "Hey you can't send here, unless you join, do you want to?" or some such (don't trust me on wording, I'm horrible at it).

Start by reproducing the issue on the iOS client: open a team-channel link for a channel you have not joined, inspect the resulting channel view, and try to send a message. Trace the iOS channel-link and join-flow entry points; done means the view offers a way to join or clearly prompts the user before sending is attempted.
