Description
Hi.
I m running a Jupyter Notebook in a docker container.
I am trying to set some ENVIRONMENT variables based on the user after the Jupyter Notebook is opened.
Although I am able to set the variables successfully, when I try to access them through the Jupyter Notebook I am not able to access them. However, I m able to access them through the shell inside the docker container.
Can anyone help me with this issue

Research direction
Reproduce the environment-variable behavior in a Jupyter Notebook running inside the reported Docker container, comparing variables set before and after the notebook opens with those visible in its shell. Check the existing issue discussion for the exact setup and define done as making the intended user-specific variables readable from the notebook, or documenting the supported limitation.
