Footnotes are not rendering properly

Description
I'm using the `[^1]` syntax in [this](http://jonathonbelotti.com/data-engineering/career/2016/11/14/what-is-a-data-engineer/) post, but the footnotes are not rendering at all.
I did not altered the source of this project when I used it for my github.io website.
