Support for image-to-latex backend?

Is there any plan to allow users to use https://github.com/kingyiusuen/image-to-latex instead of mathpix as a backend?
I'm sure this would be of interest to many who do not want to pay for mathpics, or who do not have consistent internet access when taking notes.

Start by locating the existing Mathpix backend integration and reviewing the image-to-latex project; done would mean supporting that backend without breaking the current one and documenting how to use it.
