Start by reproducing the `$ repo sync` command on the stated Ubuntu environment and focus on the `external-opencore` fetch failure. Compare the remote connection output with the `fatal: early EOF` and `index-pack failed` messages; done means identifying a reproducible cause and a verified way for the sync to complete.
