### Checklist

- [X] I have searched for [similar issues](https://github.com/isl-org/Open3D/issues).
- [X] For Python issues, I have tested with the [latest development wheel](http://www.open3d.org/docs/latest/getting_started.html#development-version-pip).

### My Question

Sometimes when I try to call o3d.io.read_triangle_mesh, I have a corrupted `ply` file. It then gives me an appropriate [Open3D warning]. Since this script is mainly for automation, I have tried to catch it using `warnings.filterwarnings('error')` and a try/except statement. However, it seems like that the [Open3D] warning is merely just a log rather than an actual warning. I was wondering if anyone know whether there is a way to catch them as a warning instead? Thanks.
