Research direction
Start by reproducing the save-and-exit sequence with Debugify 1.20.1+2.0, Deathlog, and Fabric/Quilt Loader 0.15.5 for Minecraft 1.20.1. Inspect the linked crash log at https://mclo.gs/hU001TO and use the absence of a hang or crash during world save and exit as the completion condition.
