github release event to trigger release workflows

i'm trying to create a github action that posts to discord when a release is published but the action never runs when auto publishes a github release.

i'm not really sure how to solve this (it's a bit over my head) but is there something auto can do to ensure the github release it creates triggers the `published` event so github actions can dispatch their associated workflows?

**Describe alternatives you've considered**

i've tried swapping the action event type to `created` but that didn't work either.

**Additional context**

here is the action i'm trying to get working: https://github.com/tokenami/tokenami/blob/main/.github/workflows/release-discord.yaml. when i manually dispatch this action it posts to discord fine (with the test data there).
